Point2productions seeks 8-10 actors of all gender identities to fill 19 roles in a December 2024 production of Almost, Maine - a romantic comedy written by John Cariani, directed by Frank Rose.
Description: Welcome to Almost, Maine, a place that's so far north, it's almost not in the United States. It's almost in Canada. And it's not quite a town, because its residents never got around to getting organized. So it almost doesn't exist. One cold, clear, winter night, as the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, the residents of Almost, Maine, find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend-almost-in this delightful midwinter night's dream.
Structure: Almost, Maine consists of 8 short plays plus a prologue, interlogue, and epilogue.
Cast breakdown: 19 roles, written genders are listed but any gender identities will be considered for all roles. All characters are in their 20s-30s. The director is seeking 8-10 actors to double all roles. Roles will be understudied internally.
PETE* (m) and GINETTE* (f), who have been dating for a little while.
EAST* (m), a repairman, and GLORY* (f), a hiker
JIMMY (m), a heating and cooling guy; SANDRINE (f), his ex-girlfriend; a salty WAITRESS (f)
MARVALYN* (f), a woman who is very good at protecting herself, and STEVE* (m), an open, kind fellow whose brother protects him
GAYLE* (f) and LENDALL* (m), longtime girlfriend and boyfriend.
RANDY (m) and CHAD (m), two "County Boys" OR DEENA (f) and SHELLY (f), two "County Girls"
PHIL (m), a hard-working husband, and his hard-working wife, MARCY (f)
HOPE (f), who has traveled the world, and a MAN (m), who has not
RHONDA*♱ (f), a tough woman, and DAVE*♱ (m), the not-so-tough man who loves her
Intimacy/Nudity: Roles marked with a (*) will require some choreographed moments of intimacy. Roles marked with a (♱) will require a comedic sequence of disrobing in which both characters strip down to their long underwear. The actor playing DAVE may be choreographed to appear shirtless on stage if the actor is comfortable. All moments of intimacy will be choreographed to the level of comfortability of each actor. Performer agency will always be maintained in the rehearsal room and we will not tolerate any violation of boundaries & respect for one another. Stage management will be in charge of ensuring daily intimacy checks occur.
Compensation: Actors will be paid a $125 stipend upon completion of the production.
Miscellaneous: Actors may be asked to provide costume pieces to supplement their design. Actors may be asked to attend strike and set build if they are able.
Callbacks: If required, will be held Thursday, October 3rd by invitation from 6-9pm and will be announced by midnight on Wednesday, October 2nd. Callbacks will consist of scenes from the play.
First read through: October 9th from 6-9pm
Rehearsals: Mondays through Thursdays starting October 28th through November 28th 6-9pm all in schaumburg.
Tech: December 2nd thru 5th at night in Elgin.
Performances: December 6-15th. 7pm Friday/Saturdays, 2pm Sundays with a pick up rehearsal on the 12th from 6-9pm. Strike on Sunday 12/15. All at the Elgin Art Showcase.
Please prepare up to 2 contemporary monologues totalling no more than 3 minutes combined. Memorization is not necessary. Really. 2 monologues are preferred but not at all required. Most actors will be doubling roles, so the director is looking for versatility.
