Description:
SEEKING: A Non-Equity Male Actor to play JOHNNY in A Jukebox for the Algonquin in Citadel Theatre's 2024-25 Season.
Show Description:
A Chicago Theatre premiere! A story of sex, drugs, and rocking chairs! All the residents of Placid Pines Senior Care Center want is a jukebox, but that simple request leads to a side-splitting, roller-coaster journey. This will only be the fifth production of this play, nationwide
Character Breakdown:
Johnny - Male, Age: 65+, African American. Johnny is the heart of this story. It is his journey to secure a Jukebox for the rec room, and he is decidedly leading the charge. Bronx-born Johnny is a curmudgeon, a dreamer, a romantic, a pragmatist and a significant pain in the ass.
Tone: This is not a play about old people, it is about people who have lived. This is no Hallmark Movie. As Johnny would say, it's a story with the stems and seeds still in it. Funny, edgy, at times inappropriate and a joyous ride. The show was the recipient of Michigan's Wilde Award for the Best New Play 2023/2024
