Description:
MadKap Productions is seeking top rated SINGERS for its production of "Romeo and Bernadette"
A new musical by Mark Saltzman. Shakespeare meets the modern-world in this delightful musical rom-com with songs based on traditional Italian melodies. After a 600 year nap, Romeo believes that Bernadette, the tough-as-nails daughter of a New York mob boss, is the reincarnation of his beloved Juliet. He pursues her to an America filled with whimsical characters, singing mobsters, and a family feud that puts the Montagues and Capulets to shame.
Directed by Bernard Rice. Music Direction by Jeremy Ramey. Choreography by Abby Glaws
ROLES
Romeo: The Shakespearean character himself. Dashing, passionate, courtly, irresistibly, handsome, a swashbuckling innocent, pursuing Bernadette whom he mistakes for Juliet. Tenor with a strong high A, and capable of falsetto or strong B.
Juliet/Bernadette Penza: Brooklyn, mafia princess. Sexy, tough, vulgar, funny, spoiled, temperamental, with more tenderness in her heart than she realizes.
Strong singer with a high belt and strung mix, capable of belting to an E, which is her "money note" at the end of her solo.
Sal Penza: Bernadette's father. Funny, lovable, a down-to-earth, up-from-the-streets mob chief. Baritone to F, with an optional A in unison with Tito.
Camille Penza: Bernadette's mother. A stylish Brooklyn mob wife with upper class aspirations and affectations. Also the offstage voice of Donna's mother. Mezzo-soprano, sings to C above middle C but has an operatic voice that can reach a high G. THIS ROLE HAS BEEN CAST!
Tito Titone: a Studley, thug, and Bernadette's cold, domineering fiance. Tenor with a strong high B-flat.
Dino Del Canto/Brooklyn Guy: do you know, elegant, aristocratic, old country, mob, father, with refined upper class, Italian accent: Lyric baritone, generally sings to F with some growled jazz high A-flats.
Donna Dubacek/Brooklyn Girl: Bernadette's friend and maid of honor. Tough talking, blunt, earthy, jaded. Belt and mix singer, can belt to C above middle C.
Don Del Canto/Airport Supervisor: Dino's elegant, aristocratic, old-country mob father, with a refined upper-class Italian accent. Also plays a Zeppola vendor. Baritone to high G.
Lips: the Penza family's bodyguard. Gruff, all business, but a surprisingly complex, tough guy. No music range.
Pay: Stipend - $400.00
