Description:
Laughing Stock Theatre is seeking actors to perform in a New Works Festival in February 2025.
The festival features readings of three brand new comedies by Chicago playwrights, each exploring a different take on the timeless style of Commedia dell'Arte. Actors experienced in highly physical acting are particularly encouraged to submit, but prior experience with Commedia is not required. The rehearsal process will include a short workshop to familiarize everyone who might be new to Commedia. Actors are allowed and encouraged to perform in more than one reading.
Laughing Stock Theatre is committed to performing high-quality Commedia dell'Arte and to sharing this art form with audiences across Chicago. The goal of the festival is to gain feedback on these three plays and broaden the pool of Commedia-trained actors in our community. We hope to mount a full production of one of these plays in late 2025 or early 2026.
Pay: $50 stipend & complimentary workshop
