HELLO to all talented Brisbane actors and actresses we welcome you to audition for our short film “The Wardrobe”.
The Wardrobe is a 10 minute short drama, exploring the notion of one’s past and coming to terms with life’s complexities, before rediscovering happiness.
Overview:
Who: Dedicated and professional Griffith Master’s students.
What: The Wardrobe - Short Film
When;
Audition Dates: First round auditions – Thursday 21st April (if applicable)
Filming Dates: week commencing 9th May (3 day shoot).
Where: One local Brisbane location. To be confirmed, but aiming to only have only one shoot location.
Payment: Unpaid Project

Synopsis
Wardrobe follows the journey of a young woman AMY. Amy is desperately unhappy and seeks the help of a physiatrist to unlock the door to her tragic past. Through this process of self discovery she is triggered with memories and cryptic messages, flashbacks and poignant moments; the creaking door of her sad tale slowly begins to reveal itself.
Through the voice of her inner child Amy begins to look deeper and further into her own ‘Wardrobe’ of pain. Will Amy be brave enough to look inside her Wardrobe, or allow the door to be sealed tight forever?

Her eyes express distance and confusion, her physical movements hold tension and her speech is laced with anger, yet smooth. Physical attributes: long red hair, a fine featured quiet beauty, classically refined but a dark dress sense Emotive actions: Amy’s grief surfaces at pivotal moments when she has flash-backs, dreams and triggers. These feelings are brought upon by sessions with a Psychiatrist. Amy needs to have depth of emotions, expressing grief and hope. Side note: Amy must look naturally younger in a school uniform. |
“Dave Kahn” (Psychiatrist | Male | Any Ethnicity | 41-50 | ) male, 40-60 years Dave is professional psychiatrist, in his early fifties, and has a face etched with the heaviness of his work, but eyes that are wise and soft. Dave is the central link in the story, who pushes Amy out of her comfort zone. He has seen and heard a lot in his 30 year career. He knows that he has to be gentle with Amy, not push too far, or it will provoke her to shut down further. He wants her to find the answers within herself. He provides the catalyst for her to do this. |
“Amy Knight Gondry” (child Amy | Female | Any Ethnicity | 6-10 | ), female 8-12 years CHILD Amy is the Adult Amy look-alike. She too has red hair. This child is a metaphor of innocence lost – she is a symbol of the adult Amy’s subconscious. The child is NOT actually adult Amy as a child, but the embodiment of a part of her that is lost. |
“Vanessa Knight Gondry”, (Mother) | Female | Any Ethnicity | 25-30 | female 25-30 years Vanessa, is aged in her early Thirties, long hair, a beauty. She is womanly and loving, the embodiment of ‘Mother’ – a nurturing woman, with heavy sad eyes, for she knows her time with her daughter is precious and coming to an end. |
“Kate Knight”, (step mother) | Female | Any Ethnicity | 31-40 | female 30-45 years Kate is aged in her forties, she is a perfectionist. She is concerned with material wealth and projects a high level of vanity. She is scared of getting old and struggles emotionally with the “stepmother” role. Kate lives in the shadow of the perfect ‘dead’ wife, (who was Anton’s ex wife). Amy and Kate’s relationship is strained, there is a distinct bitterness and a frustration about Kate – for she has never been, nor ever will be, a mother her-self. |
“Anton Knight” (father), | Male | Any Ethnicity | 41-50 | male 45-60 years Anton is in his early Fifties, he is a formidable figure, with formal attire and harsh features. Seething beneath his hard exterior is grief and anger - which erupts when provoked. He wants a quiet, stress free, planned, safe and routine existence – this is how he keeps his life and feelings under control. Side note: Anton never looks anyone in the eye. If he does, their in trouble. |
“James Muller” (boyfriend | Male | Any Ethnicity | 25-30 | ), male 20-30 years James is in his late 20’s. He is a laid back person and has had a pretty charmed and uneventful life. He goes with the flow. He tries to empathise with Amy’s situation. He is a loving and supportive boyfriend. |
