Breakdown:
Role Name | Gender | Ethnicity | Age Range | Description |
---|---|---|---|---|
Amador | Male | South American/Latino | 18-24 | Young 18-24 yr. old Mexican, undocumented immigrant who has recently arrived in NYC and works 12-14 hrs/day as a delivery boy/dishwasher. His talent is drawing and painting and has the potential to be a great artist if it weren’t for his position in US society. He is sensitive and hopeful; he wishes well on others yet at a certain point becomes despondent and takes to drinking. He is a combination of “Joe Buck” from Midnight Cowboy and the drunken Toshiro Mifune from Seven Samurai. It’s imperative that he look like the character he’s portraying. No “white” looking Mexicans. |
Carl | Male | African American | >60 | African-American museum guard in his 60’s. He is ready to retire and has become idealistic as he’s grown older. He has started taking action to make things more equal in the unequal NYC society he lives in. He becomes friends with AMADOR. He is like the cantankerous characters played by Morgan Freeman. |
Aurelio | Male | South American/Latino | 51-60 | 50’s something, Mexican undocumented immigrant. He is unimaginative and accepting of his place in society although he takes out his frustrations on Amador his roommate. He is bitter and judgmental of other Mexicans; a grump and AMADOR’s opposite. |
Evelyn | Female | South American/Latino | 31-40 | 30-40 something, Puerto Rican museum guard. She is attractive, good natured and happy. She has a thick Brooklyn accent as well as a thick Puerto Rican Spanish accent. She translates for AMADOR and CARL. |
Tyrell | Male | African American | 41-50 | Drug addicted, 40’s, African-American man who covers his vulnerabilities (lives on a roof, addicted to crack) with a threatening attitude. He is the leader of a group of drug addicts and treats them with respect and care. He does not like outsiders. |
Maria | Female | South American/Latino | Any Age | Drug addicted Latin/NYC woman of nondescript origins. She is part of Tyrell’s group and at one point cares for AMADOR when he hits rock bottom. She is sympathetic despite her addictions. |
Cecilia | Female | South American/Latino | 18-24 | 18-24 year old Mexican woman. She is an attractive Native American looking woman. She is naïve and easily manipulated. She wants to be cared for and does not wait for her fiancé AMADOR to return. She speaks “Mexican” Spanish. |
Mr. Niccolo | Male | White Italian | 31-40 | Late 30’s, greedy, exploitive Italian-American restaurant owner. He works hard at his restaurant and expects his workers to work as hard or more. He uses cocaine to keep up his energy but is burning himself out. His motivation for working so hard is living a materialistic life and providing for his family. This is his American dream. He despises his workers and derides AMADOR. |
