Summary

This dark family comedy is set in London and has six characters. The character delivering the monologue is Lenny, a pimp in his 30s. He lives with his father Max, his uncle Sam and his brother Joey, a wannabe boxer. When his older brother Teddy shows up at their house with his wife Ruth, tension between the members of the family grows. Ruth's presence contributes to it as she starts flirting and eventually hooks up with Lenny.

In this monologue, in Act 2, Lenny flips out and confronts Ted after he finds out his brother has eaten his cheese roll. He remarks how he has changed for the worse in the six years that he has been away and how the family expects more "generosity of mind" and "liberality of spirit" from him as he has rejoined the family. The monologue is comical in its dramatic delivery, considering the circumstances.

Excerpt
LENNY: "Barefaced audacity. What led you to be so... vindictive against your own brother? I'm bowled over. Well, Ted, I would say this is something approaching the naked truth, isn't it?..."
