Summary
This is a one act play with one character, Krapp, a weary, disgruntled and lonely old man. It takes place at his house on the day of his 69th birthday. As customary, he listens to old tapes that he has recorded previous years. In particular, he listens to a tape he recorded when he was 39 years old. In the old tape, Krapp talks about having listened to a tape he recorded when he was in his late twenties. He then talks about his mother's death and an old failed romantic liaison.
Towards the end of the play, the 69 year old Krapp inserts a brand new tape in his tape recorded and reminisces about his depressing, uneventful and unsuccessful life. He talks about his failure as a writer and his sad romantic life which consists on visits by an old prostitute...
