Summary
The survivors of a plane crash are stranded in a mysterious, remote tropical island in the South Pacific. Among the survivors there is Jack, a doctor, Kate, a former prisoner, Charlie, a rock star, Sayid, an Iraqi military man, Locke, a mysterious man who used to be paralyzed before the crash but is miraculously cured after the crash and Claire, a pregnant Australian girl. The series alternates present events with flashbacks of the background stories of the characters.
In this episode the flashback regards a car accident Claire had that leaves her mother in a coma. Claire survives the accident and in this scene she goes to her mother's room. In this dramatic monologue Claire tells her that she is pregnant and that she will give up her baby for adoption. Then she starts crying and asks her to forgive her. The monologue is about 3 minutes. Good range of emotions.

CLAIRE: "Now, who turned the telly off? Don't they know how much you love your nature shows? (She turns off the tv). That's better. So how are you today Mum? Did you have an okay night? There's umm, something I have to tell you, Mum, something I should have told you a long time ago. [pause] I'm pregnant. I err, I'm giving it away, it's for the best. I wish—I don't know how you did it… raising me alone? It must have been so hard. And I was just awful, awful… so horrible to you. [crying] I'm so sorry, Mum. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry for all the awful things I said to you in the car; that I hated you; and that I wished you weren't my mother; and I wished you were dead. It's all my fault, the accident and everything. I'm so sorry, Mum. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. I'll see you soon, okay?" |
