Summary

Remy is a rat who dreams of becoming a great chef, just like his hero Auguste Gusteau. By fate, after losing his family, Remy ends up in Auguste Gusteau's restaurant in Paris. There, a young kid, Linguini, has just started working as a garbage man. Remy sneaks in the kitchen and prepares a delicious soup which draws the attention of a food critic. The head chef of the restaurant thinks that Linguini cooked it and asks to cook it again. When they discover Remy in the kitchen, he asks Linguini to bring it outside and kill the rat.

In this scene Linguini is about to throw Remy into the river. Remy is in a jar and looks Linguini in his eyes, scared to death. Linguini breaks down and talks to the rat as if he could understand him. He laments the fact that he might be losing his job as they expect him to cook it again. Then as he notices the rat is actually understanding him, he makes a pact with him: he will set him free but he will have to help him cook that soup again...

I was just trying to stay out of trouble. You're the one who was getting fancy with the spices! What did you throw in there? Oregano? No? What? Rosemary? That's a spice, isn't it? Rosemary? You didn't throw rosemary in there? Then what was all the flipping and all the throwing the...(he sits down) I need this job. I've lost so many. I don't know how to cook and now I'm actually talking to a rat as if you.....hahahha! Did you nod? Have you been nodding? Ha! You understand me?.......
