Julie Andrews to Receive the 48th AFI Life Achievement Award - thewrap

Dame Julie Andrews will receive the 48th AFI Life Achievement Award, the American Film Institute Board of Trustees announced Friday.

Andrews will receive the honor at a Gala Tribute on April 25 in Los Angeles, California.

“Julie Andrews is practically perfect in every way,” Kathleen Kennedy, Chair of the AFI Board of Trustees, said. “Her talents across time have inspired a shared sense of joy across generations, and her gifts to our cultural heritage are a testament to the power of this art form to bring us together when we need it most. AFI is proud to sing her praises with its 48th Life Achievement Award.”

Three-time Academy Award nominee Julie Andrews won both a BAFTA and an Oscar for her role in “Mary Poppins.” She also starred in “The Sound of Music,” “The Americanization of Emily,” “Torn Curtain” and “Victor/Victoria.” She has also won five Golden Globes, three Grammys and two Emmys, and she is also a Kennedy Center honoree, a Disney Legend inductee and the recipient of a SAG Life Achievement Award.

Her most recent credits include “Aquaman,” “Enchanted,” “Shrek” and “The Princess Diaries 1 and 2.” She will next be seen in the upcoming “Minions” film and Shonda Rhimes’ new Netflix series “Bridgerton.”

Previous AFI Life Achievement Award recipients include Orson Welles, Alfred Hitchcock, Elizabeth Taylor, Jack Nicholson, Steven Spielberg, Clint Eastwood, Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Shirley MacLaine, Jane Fonda, Steve Martin and most recently, Denzel Washington.

The AFI Life Achievement Award is the highest honor given for a career in film and was established in 1973.
