Ava: Hi, Sophie! (Notices her friend is upset) Wait, is everything alright?
Sophie: I know the truth.
Ava: (Face drops) What are you talking about? What “truth?”
Sophie: Lilly told me about what you said.
Ava: What did I say?
Sophie: You’ve been spreading rumors about me. Lilly told me all about how you said I was the one bullying our friends online. And that I’ve been lying to avoid hanging out with you? I’m not stupid, Ava. I’ve noticed people’s stares and whispering. All of our friends don’t want to talk to me anymore. Do you have any idea how much you hurt me? Do you even care? What did I ever do to you? I thought you were my best friend.
Ava: That’s not true! I never said that!
Sophie: And why should I trust you?
Ava: Because we’ve been best friends since Kindergarten!
Sophie: Not anymore.
Ava: Not anymore?!? Just like that? Eleven years of friendship down the drain? Why, because Lilly told you to? What’s wrong with you? You know I would never do that. You’ve been friends with Lilly for what, a few months? Why would you take her word over mine? Who stuck by you when you were being bullied last year? Me. I’ve stuck by you even after everyone else wrote you off.
Sophie: (Cutting them off) Lilly’s more of a friend than you ever were. She doesn’t tell me I’m wrong all the time. She makes me feel good about myself. She lets me live my life.
Ava: I tell you the truth! And I give you advice! Lilly just tells you what you want to hear. You don’t need someone like Lilly to give you value. You’re full of value all on your own.
Sophie: You’re one to talk about telling the truth about me. And for all this talk of sticking by me, Lilly’s the only one of our friend group talking to me now, thanks to you. And now you’re trying to play dumb so you can swoop in and be the hero. Lilly told me all about how much you love that. You know, part of me feels bad for you. You’re so insecure you needed to drag me down to your level in order to feel better. (Ava is clearly hurt. A line has been crossed. Sophie regrets being so harsh) Wait. No, I didn’t mean it like that.
Ava: (Quiet anger) Fine. I see how it is. Well, maybe now that you’ve written me out of your life I’ll stop destroying it and you can be happy. You clearly won’t listen to reason. If being friends with Lilly is what you want, go ahead.
Sophie: (Defensive) Fine. I will.
Avar: Alright then. I’ll never speak to you again.
Sophie: Oh my gosh, Ava, you’re acting like you didn’t cause this with your-
Ava: (Cutting them off, yelling in anger) For the last time, I did not spread rumors about you!
Sophie: Then who did?!?
(Lilly walks onstage with a subtle smirk on their face, directed at Ava)
Lilly: Hey Sophie, ready to head to the mall?
(Sophie gives one final betrayed, solemn look to their friend)
Sophie: Yeah, let’s go.
(She sees Lilly, she realizes it was her. Her eyes widen in shock) |
