Summary
"Men die and they are not happy" summarizes Caligula's view of life. After his beloved sister/lover Drusilla dies, the heartbroken young emperor's grief leads him to madness and murder. He kills at random, leads a dissolute life and makes ridiculous decrees until all catches up with him and he is killed. In this monologue Caligula expresses his new view of the world. Nothing is logical and life has no meaning. He expresses his desire to attain "power to the uttermost and willfulness without end". He wants to make the impossible possible, such as bringing the moon to earth with the help of Helicon...
