Summary
This is a scene between several young German soldiers who are fighting during WWI. This scene comes after a long battle sequence. They are exhausted and have just eaten a double portion of food as most of their fellow soldiers have been killed during the battle. While eating and relaxing, they wonder whey they are at war after all.....

| EXT. DAY A group of soldiers are furiously eating by a tree. Soldier 1 grabs some food from soldier's 2's plate. Soldier 3 is dozing off laying by a tree. SOLDIER 2: "Don't mind me." SOLDIER 1: "Oh, that's all right. Don't mention it." SOLDIER 3: "You know...I could do with some more beans." SOLDIER 4: "Go help yourself. There's more over there." SOLDIER 3: "Ohhhh. It's too far." SOLDIER 2: "I wonder, when are we going back to the front?" SOLDIER 4: "Tomorrow." Soldier 1 throws away his plate. SOLDIER 1: "It's enough to take away a man's appetite." SOLDIER 2: "You know, if they're gonna march us in again tomorrow, we ought to go see how Kemmerick is." They all agree. SOLDIER 5: "How far is the dressing station?" SOLDIER 1: "About two miles." SOLDIER 5: "We could take his things to him." SOLDIER 2: "It seemed rotten to think of a thing like that happening to him. A nice fellow like Kemmerick." SOLDIER 6: "Ah, the French certainly deserve to be punished for starting this war." SOLDIER 3: "Everybody says it's somebody else." SOLDIER 1: "Well, how do they start a war?" SOLDIER 6: "Well, one country offends another." SOLDIER 1: "How can one country offend another? You mean there's a mountain over in Germany gets mad at a field over in France?"
